What is it like to have a pregnant belly for 9 months?

Pregnant belly

When a sperm fertilizes an egg after it’s been released from the ovary, the egg travels to the uterus. That’s where Pregnancy occurs. It lasts 9 months, and many symptoms appear before a Woman takes her pregnancy test. She is very happy to know she’s pregnant. However, the pregnancy phase is delicate. So, what is a woman going through during this phase?

First of all, the “happy nine months” aren’t always happy ones, they are linked to some symptoms a woman should have. the Pregnancy symptoms can continue for a few weeks or months, and they vary from a woman to another. The most classic symptom is the missed period, followed by headaches, blood spotting, back pain, constipation, cramps, mood swings, food cravings, etc.

In the first few weeks of pregnancy, AKA the first 12 weeks, the fetus begins developing its brain, spinal cord, and organs. The fetus’s growth goes fast. These weeks are the most dangerous phase of the pregnancy because the Fetus, called Embryo, can be damaged if exposed to drugs, infectious agents, radiation, certain medications, tobacco, and toxic substances. These Several reasons push the Mom to be very aware of her food, drinks, activities… According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), it’s estimated that about 1 in 10 pregnancies end in miscarriage and that about 85 percent of these occur in the first trimester.

The second trimester of the pregnancy lasts from week 12 till week 27. The embryo has organs now, and the mom can hear his heartbeat. At that point, she’ll become too emotional that her eyes will tear from happiness. The gynecologist will perform an “anatomy scan ultrasound” to check the fetus’s organs and the developmental abnormalities if existed. During this test, the mom can know the sex of the baby if she doesn’t want to be surprised at the delivery. After week 23, the embryo becomes “viable”, it means he can survive outside of the womb. But when a baby is born this early it means he has serious medical issues.

The baby has a much better chance of being born healthy the longer the mom is able to carry the pregnancy.

Now let’s talk about the third trimester of the pregnancy; it lasts from week 27 till week 40, or till the delivery time. The mom’s weight gain will accelerate, knowing that she will gain weight during the second trimester too. She will be feeling a little bit more tired, pissing a lot, having fast heartbeats. She can also suffer from anxiety and stress if it’s her first baby.

The baby is “completed”! He can open and close his eyes, as well as sensing the light. He will be moving more than he did in the past trimester, and the mom can see her tummy bumping. Those little bumps are the most amazing things to feel inside of her.

Every pregnancy is unique, every woman is different and her body changes are different too; but developments will most likely occur within this general time frame, and in the end it will be called PREGNANCY!

During the ninth month, the woman begins to feel some contractions and pain. It’s time for the baby to come out!! These contractions cause the cervix to dilate and help the baby to move into the birth canal. This stage is called the Labor stage and it is followed by the Delivery phase.

What are Labor and Delivery Phases and how can a woman act during them?
